A fire like no other!
But ... when you're an adult, you can bend the rules a little. In 2007, I was slacking on burning the brush and debris pile for a while. So, it kept growing and growing and growing. It started out with an old chair, some brush was added, then a tree that fell, then some more wood from a ripped out deck, and some fence posts. Then, there was quite a bit of old wood hauled out from the railroad yard and some other items that are best if they are not mentioned (shhh... don't tell the EPA!).
By Thanksgiving, the pile was 15 foot by 15 foot at the base and about 10 feet high. It was lit with 2 gallons of diesel fuel and 1 gallon of gas.

Eric adding the starter with Rich observing.
A single match started the festivities. (As a side note, the Volunteer's Wanted sign is a 4x8 foot piece of plywood. Does that put this in a little more perspective?)

The trial of gas ignites with a WOOSH, followed by ignition of
the diesel.
From there, the fire took on a life of it's own. I'm standing next to the fire (yea, it was hot) to give you a little perspective.
![]() It's just getting started, so the heat isn't to bad! |

Look close - that is me standing to the side of the fire.
At this point,
the flames appear to be about 37' feet high.

One of my favorite pictures, I call it the "Blair Witch Fire
Project". Too many beers helped
produce this unique result!
