When you look back in a memory book of mine, in second grade I
wanted to be a fighter pilot. Ever since then, I have been fascinated
with flying. In 1989 I took my first ride on a small airplane, probably a Cessna 172. I found out in college that the University offered a whole
degree in Aviation. I decided to get a private pilot's license.
A Cessna 152 from Ohio University that I used for getting my
Private Pilots license.
Before I even started flying, my dad talked to a friend of his who flies
for UPS. Jerry suggested to my dad that I get an IFR license (for flying
in the clouds). He later suggest also a commercial license and then
various instructor licenses. Before I even started flying, I had a
loan from the National Bank of Dad for 9 flight classes and 5 ground
school classes!
A Beech Baron from Ohio University that I received my
commercial license in. Yes, that is me in the picture looking very
unprofessional.
I am currently a Commercial Pilot with an IFR rating and multi-engine rating.
I gave up my Instructor and Instrument Instructor licenses in 2003 when I ran
out of time to renew everything with the other hobbies I was active in.
Some other fun things related to flying that I have done are skydiving
from 15,000 feet at Richmond, Indiana out of a Twin Otter and flying a
flying parachute (a parachute with a small go-cart and a huge fan in the
back.)
I sill have yet to try (and will some day!) flying a glider, a helicopter, a
hang glider and learning aircraft acrobatics. I have my eye on someday
buying an aircraft - preferable a Cherokee 6/300 or a 1970's model
Belanca Super Viking with wood covered wings. However, my next toy I will probably
buy is a ultra light so I can fly from my front yard.
