HUNTING

I love living in the country. When I was going to college, I convinced my dad that it would save him money (since he was paying for school, room and board) if he bought me a trailer home and sold it when I was done. I found a newer trailer on 7.5 acres about 10 miles from Ohio University on Pearl Wood Road (officially the town of Albany, but Albany was 8 miles away from where I lived). I started hunting and the first deer I shot was an 8 point that is now mounted on my den wall. After leaving college, I lived in town and was not able to hunt for quite some time.

But, then came my new life - on Fallsburg road in Newark. My wife and I bought a house on 37.4 acres with a 1 acre stocked pond. I no longer allow gun hunting (keeps the traffic to a minimum), but I personally still take the gun out from time to time. I prefer the bow, and I have been known to go hunting with the Samurai from time to time. I keep trying, but I've never hit one!

I have not gotten into turkey hunting despite the fact the property is littered with turkeys. They are just to darn hard for me to worry about. Kroger's has a much better selection, anyway!

I do, however, encourage kids to get into the sport.  It teaches patience, the need to practice, and becoming self reliant.  I allow 1 youth to take part of the youth gun hunting season each year by giving them full run of the property during that weekend.  I also have done my best to teach my nephews how to bow hunt.  Here's Ryan (the middle nephew!) trying his hand at shooting a bow in November 2007.  His older brother Jonathan is looking on.
