THE PIG ROAST

YOU'RE INVITED!

Ahhh... what a beautiful way to start off a webpage about a pig roast! After moving in to our house in August of 2002, we decided that we should have a party for our friends, co-workers, and neighbors to have fun, drink beer, and just be general hillbillies. We could think of no better way than to have a pig roast! We chose the weekend after fathers day for a couple of reasons. First, the month of June seems to usually have good (but hot) weather. Second, no one else had yearly parties scheduled that month. And finally, I thought it was a unique way to remember my mom who passed away in 1990 as that weekend is close to her June 28th birthday. (Not that mom was into pig roasts, but I think she knew I was a little strange, and this definitely proves it).

We have about 80 people join us for the pig roast each year. The day starts out around noon for most people as they start to arrive. The pig usually comes off the grill around 1:00PM and the afternoon is filled with eating potluck dishes, swimming, fishing, four wheeling, drinking, volleyball, playing with dogs, and relaxing. Usually, around 4:30 we start on the really strange part of the pig roast - SNOWMOBILES ACROSS THE POND! Just because we can, we try to water skip across the center of the pond about 300 feet, passing over the deepest point (11 feet). Sometimes we sink, sometimes we make it, some times we don't (video by John Hilborn), but we always have fun!

The bonfire gets going around 7:00 followed by the fireworks around 10:00. Some folks stay overnight in the cabin or in tents, while most just head home when they are done for the night.
